Love Notts Nurses & Midwives
Nurse and Midwife of the Year Awards
We value and honour our Nurses and Midwives at NUH. Our awards have been going for 3+ years now and we look to hear from patients, carers, family members and hospital staff about the people who have gone the extra mile for them.
The awards, held in partnership with the Post, Nottingham University Hospitals Trust and Nottingham Express Transit, attracted more than 1,800 votes this year. In total, 22 nurses, midwives and other healthcare staff received winner and runner-up prizes at this year’s ceremony, from Children’s Nurse of the Year to Nurse or Midwife Leader.
Our 2016 winner Aprille Jones works in the theatre recovery ward at the Queen’s Medical Centre and came to work in the UK from the Philippines after being selected by the NHS in 2001.
“I am very happy, I feel honoured to have this award. I was already thrilled to be a finalist but to have actually won the award is overwhelming. I can’t really speak, I am just so excited.”
“It’s such a great feeling. It’s such a rewarding job. All the hard work has paid off. To know that someone is watching and recognising what we do, I really appreciate that.”
As well as being handed the award, Aprille will have her name printed on one of Nottingham’s trams – courtesy of operator and award partner Nottingham Express Transit. Read more here.
International Nurse and Midwife Day
International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world every May 12 and International Day of the Midwife is celebrated on May 5.
Every year at NUH we mark this day and celebrate our profession and around the organisation to show our appreciation for our hardworking colleagues.
In previous years we’ve seen tea parties being held and each clinical area received a cake kindly supported by Nottingham Hospitals Charity.
