The world renowned Division of Surgery at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust is at the forefront of development and research in nationwide surgical care and treatment. We provide excellent, safe, holistic care to all our patients who attend from the local community, regional and tertiary referral centres. Holding the patient at the heart of everything we do and enabling everyone to see their connection to the patient experience is fundamental to our success.
Our journey to become the first Magnet hospital in the United Kingdom has been officially launched and the Surgery Division is well positioned to achieve excellence. We have a programme of Shared Governance which places power and autonomy in the hands of frontline nurses in a bottom up rather than top down decision making process. Staff are trained and supported to fulfil the roles within the Shared governance council, which is a great developmental opportunity; we have had many staff that has progressed and developed through this process. Magnet is ultimately a roadmap for success, with its principles leading both to initial accreditation and ongoing sustainable world renowned nursing excellence, that’s local to our community in and around Nottingham. It is fantastic news that we are able to commence our magnet journey, as we are one of the few trusts to have been recognised by magnet as achieving the high standards to even commence our journey.
